Alyssa and I had the opportunity to attend two Washington Nationals Spring Training games. I was in Orlando for a work conference so was able to extend my trip a few days to make a couple of games and Alyssa was able to fly down to meet me. Thursday, March 22, 2013 we went to Braves Spring Training Stadium and were surrounded by Nats fans! What an experience! We lost the game, but had a blast with our new friends. The couple in front of us gave us their season ticket holders parking pass for Friday’s game. The parking pass saved us $7 and gave us great parking for Friday’s game in Viera. We got to the game about an hour early and scoped out the stadium. I bought a spring training hat and we enjoyed the game. But, we lost again!
As we were leaving we noticed a group by the fence. I remembered reading about the fence. This was supposedly a great place to wait for Nats players as they leave the locker room. We decided since there would be traffic getting out of the park and we were in no hurry we might as well wait. And we are so glad we did! The first person to come out was Denard Span!
Not the best photo, but you can see the fence area that they come up to! The kids were a little hesitant, but once they realized who he was (thanks to a couple of parents), they rushed to get his autograph.
Next up came Ian Desmond. Since I was off to the side of the group, Ian ended up standing right in front of me allowing me to take a few great pictures! This is my best one.
Next came Adam LaRoche. I was dying a little inside!
What an amazing experience and they were fantastic with all the kids out there waiting for them. I was hoping to see Ryan Zimmerman, Tyler Clippard or Drew Storen, but I was happy with Denard, Adam and Ian!
I am beyond ready for baseball season! I’m excited to see Gio pitch on Wednesday night! Go Nats!
